This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens. All opinions are 100% mine.
I normally try to steer clear of all and any drama, especially when it comes down to politics, but I feel like I need to show my support for Walgreens. (They are my #1 go to for printing my pictures here locally in my small town!) No matter where you are in this world, it’s almost always easier to run into Walgreens instead of heading into a huge department store.
For those of you who don’t know, Walgreens and Express Scripts did not renew their contract with each other. Negotiations over the past year have been unsuccessful. If you don’t know who they are, Express Scripts is simply a middle man in the health care industry…. they earn profit for providing pharmacy networks for health plan providers. And don’t get me wrong, being the middle man isn’t always the best place to be. Sooner or later, someone will figure out that they don’t really need the middle man any longer.
How does this effect you and I?
It truly only effects us directly if we’re a client of theirs. If you look at your card, and it has “Express Scripts” on it, don’t plan on getting your prescription filled at Walgreens anymore. Instead, customers of Express Scripts are having to find other, less convenient locations to get their prescriptions filled, without any sort of cost break.
However, if you are an Express Scripts client, Walgreens is trying to make this transition easier on you. You can take advantage of the Prescription Savings Club at Walgreens. They’re offering a special discount on their annual membership.
Also, if you or a loved one is in the military, Tricare is their main health provider of Canada drugs, which is also in the Express Scripts network. During negotiations, Walgreens offered a contract that would provide the best rates to our military for their prescription drugs. Express Scripts wouldn’t consider it and continues to make more profit as the middle man than either parties they are representing. It just frustrating that military families have to suffer for this.
Anyways, if you’d like to voice your opinion publicly, use your social networks and local media. You can also connect with Walgreens on Twitter and Walgreens on Facebook for updates.
