Christmas Craft Ideas for Kids
I know as we are in the Christmas Season, it is fun to do crafts with our kids, classes of children, pre-schools, and day cares. I volunteer at my girls school each week for 3 hours and we think of really fun things to do and in search of some activities, I found this and more… Children love the excitement and spirit of Christmas and these crafts are all things they can do to enhance those feelings!
Super easy and cute Christmas Tree. Paint your Popsicle stick green, then using green pipe cleaners
(short length to long length), twist them on the stick, and add beads! Find great art supplies for kids at rart.fr to inspire their creativity!
This is a pretty Christmas Star that has also been made out of Popsicle sticks and glued at the corners. The idea is to make two triangles and then glue one on top of the other. Then decorate it with markers, paint, stickers, or even glitter. We did these in a Kindergarten class and we included each child’s picture in the center. Great Tree ornament! Snowflake Poem:
Snowflake, snowflake falling down,
Twirling, twirling to the ground.
Softly, lightly on my nose,
Snowflake, snowflake icy cold!
These are tooth-pics with white pompoms glued to the tips to make simple snowflakes. Seems like Q-tips might do the same thing, but on a side note, pompoms come in many colors, so making multi-colored snowflakes would be cute too!
This came from www.enchantedlearning.com and this is done with a brown paper bag, or brown paper. Draw the shape of a stocking on the paper and have the children cut it out. Make sure there are two sides. Punch holes around the edges and as a great learning technique, let the children sew red yarn through the punched wholes!! They can then decorate there little paper stockings with pictures and symbols from christmas, use glitter for their names, and display them for all to see!
This is one of my favorite ideas. Have the child stand on a piece of brown paper, and trace the outside of their shoe. Then on a lighter brown paper, trace both of their hands. From their you have your face and antlers to make a really creative reindeer with wiggle eyes and a bright red-rudolph nose!
We made these today in my daughters classroom and ours looked exactly like this one. We used the candy cane and wrapped the pipe-cleaner (brown or any color would work–maybe even sparkle) around the top of the cane and bent them up a bit to look like antlers, then we glued a big red nose on the end and wiggle eyes about 1/2 an inch above our nose. The kids can hang these all over the classroom Christmas tree or give them to someone else as a special gift!
Another fun Candy Cane idea is to use a red pipe cleaner with red and white tri-beads. These are beads that have three little knobs on them and so when stacked next to each other they fit together nicely. We have also used green pipe cleaner and made small wreaths using the same concept of stacking red and green beads side by side and connecting them at the top, tied with a ribbon. Fun skills for children to use in learning their A-B patterns! This is a really fun activity for children. Basically string popcorn and cranberries on fishing string and make your own Christmas Garland for your tree. The paper chain is also a popular alternative!
This reindeer is made from a brown lunch bag, brown paper hands have been cut out for the use of antlers, added wiggle eyes, a nose, and mouth, and wallah… it’s an adorable reindeer puppet the kids are sure to have fun with.
